Hike - Sir Lyngbjerg Plantation

Sir Lyngbjerg Plantage at Holstebro is rich in cultural and geological heritage. From the view tower you can look out over the hills that were previously heather-clad, hence the name "Sir Lyngbjerg". In the winter, here you can relax on the steep hills.

There are marked hiking and exercise routes. Red route of approx. 2 km tells about the history and geology of the place. Two blue routes on respectively 3 and 5 km walk through the forest, to the view tower, over the hills and follow the paths. There are also mountain bike tracks for both beginners and experienced.

Geologically, the ice age landscape in Sir Lyngbjerg was formed at the end of the last ice age for approx. 20,000 years ago. The ice border line - called the Main Line - follows the northern and northeastern edge of the Plantation. The areas behind are moraine landscape of solid, fertile clay soil.

Sir Lyngbjerg is the remains of the ridge moraine with steep hills and gorges with unsorted sand and gravel.

Read more about the geology in the area on the GeoPark West Jutland website.

Cultural history

Sir Lyngbjerg has been one of the most important popular gatherings in Northwest Jutland since the 1860s. 8 monuments and monuments of distinguished people and significant historical events have been erected in the hills. Today they are cultural history of the many popular meetings that took place in Sir Lyngbjerg. See the memorials on the historic route.

The open-air scene is free for church, folk and cultural events. Here, the rock concert Udkantsrock is held every year in June.
